Monday, 26 February 2018

Apologies, Ladies, but as public transport will be disrupted by a strike on 27 February we are postponing our February outing until Tuesday 6 March.
We hope that I, Tonya will still be showing at the same time, but please be sure to check the blog towards the end of the week in case we have to make other arrangements following  the change of programme on Wednesday.

27 February - meet at 13.50 for the 14.00 showing

This month’s film is I, Tonya, based on the scandal that made headlines around the world in 1994 when one of the top two US women figure skaters was accused of complicity in an attack that might have ended the career of the other.

Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan came from very different backgrounds and were perceived very differently by the American public, Kerrigan being the “all-American girl” from a stable family and Harding - quite the opposite.

This blackly comic film shows how Tonya was moulded by her upbringing and in particular by her mother, LaVona Golden, played by Alison Janney, whose performance won her a Bafta nomination for best supporting actress. Margot Robbie, playing Tonya, was nominated for best actress.

Running time: 2h
